A Villa For A Mother

Damavand, Iran

STUDIO NAME: AAD Architecture Office

LEAD DESIGNER: Hossein Hassani , Amin Habibi

DESIGN TEAM: Pooria Mirzaee , Mahsa Yadegari , Fatemeh Azimi , Nazanin esmael Nazari

PHOTOGRAPHY CREDITS: Pooria Mirzaee

The aim of this villa was to provide tranquility and welfare of mother so we decided to name it, a villa for mother. When we entered this project, it was on its construction process. The initial structure of the villa had many problems and it wasn’t following any concept. While we visited the location of this villa which was in Damavand, Jasmin alley, we got inspired by all the jasmine flowers that surrounded the streets and alleys around our site. So we decided to create several protrusions in our southern façade which made us to add some parts to the previous structure. By orienting this building (like the petals of jasmine flowers) towards the front view of this building, we tried to percent this building as a living creature which is moving and growing on its own.

Chartigh villa

Damavand, Iran

STUDIO NAME: AAD Architecture Office

LEAD DESIGNER: Hossein Hassani , Amin Habibi

DESIGN TEAM: Pooria Mirzaee , Mahsa Yadegari , Fatemeh Azimi , Nazanin esmael Nazari, Mohammad Nasir bajolzade

This villa is located in the fields of Mara, Damavand, where the location is surrounded by a river on one side and a mountain on the other side. In our initial site visit, the calming environment which was a symbol of living and circulation, inspired us to create a form which is compatible with nature and reflects its virtual power as well Inspired by the idea of connecting river and mountain, we tried to find a regularity in the irregular waves of the river to form the initial walls of this building. All these walls extruded to the roof and connected to each other to shape 4 peaks (chartigh) and the reason behind that was the fact that Damavand is the highest peak in Iran and Middle east and we wanted to display a symbol of this mountain in our building. In addition to respecting nature, we tried to meet all the needs of the client. This villa consists of four floors with an area of approximately 300 square meters of infrastructure. The basement has direct access from the main entrance with stairs to the celebration hall which overlooks the backyard and river. This floor has spaces such as gym, installation and caretaker. The ground floor has direct access to the main entrance from the street and includes spaces such as salon, kitchen and parking. All the private spaces such as bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry room and living room are placed on the first floor and they enjoy the fascinating view of the backyard and river. On the last floor, there are spaces like a swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and locker room. Special characteristic of the swimming pool is the 5.5-meter console which emerges from the heart of one of these peaks like a river, to once again reflect the fact that chartigh villa is a villa that came from nature and wants to be a part of that.

Lotus Amphitheater

Kish Island, Iran

STUDIO NAME: Peyman Kiani Architects

LEAD DESIGNER: Peyman Kiani Falavarjani

DESIGN TEAM: Nima Bavardi, Parisa Biriya

PHOTOGRAPHY CREDITS: Mohammad Ali Rezaeiyan

The idea of Lotus Amphitheater emerged from the architectural figure of the Safavid era, the most significant artistic period in Iran. During this period, a dome-shaped space was held for Eid ceremonies, Shahnameh readings, and musical performances, and people gathered in those places. This amphitheater has been created to keep the art and culture of ancient Iran alive. The exterior side is inspired by a lotus that was used in many designs of the Achaemenid period. The wall patterns and light panels are decorated with 5o7 of Safavid architecture with Seat arrangement on different levels have created an artistic atmosphere inside the hall. The exterior, along with the view of the handmade tiles of the Safavid period and glasses with a combination of linear LEDs and spotlights, which has created beautiful reflections on the water. Having all images feeling of location identity in one unique shape as a hierarchy and family form came together in one united emotional and functional base.

Royal Residential Complex (Balconies Home)

Mehrshahr, Karaj, Iran

STUDIO NAME: Saffar Studio

LEAD DESIGNER: Ahmad Saffar

DESIGN TEAM: Marzieh Estedadi, Navid Shokravi, Alireza Amini

PHOTOGRAPHY CREDITS: Saffar Studio

The project tries to introduce its identity by playing volumes in order to respond to the performance and aesthetics at the same time. Due to the lack of semi-open space in apartment living in the city, performance and form in the praise of open space has sought to create opportunities. The negative atmosphere created the identity of the project and tried to dialogue and announce its presence with the wall of the city and human space. The project will try to meet the psychological needs of users in Iran by creating a green yard and roof and using enough space to create large and green terraces, which is of special importance for today’s human beings in this country. The gap in the eastern wall along the entrance tries to make it readable and inviting. By playing volumes under the light and creating negative depth and space, the project has tried to respond to transparency, the use of open air, privacy and the culture of the environment at the same time.

Sepidar House

Alborz, Karaj, Iran

STUDIO NAME: Saffar Studio

LEAD DESIGNER: Ahmad Saffar

DESIGN TEAM: Elaheh Azarakhsh, Niloufar Mahdiloo, Faeze Mohabatpour

PHOTOGRAPHY CREDITS: Saffar Studio

The appearance of small-scale architectural projects on land with low proportions becomes an attractive challenge, creates a different visual view with other buildings in the city, which leads to a unique feeling in the environment and the surrounding area. The main design challenge in the Sepidar house project has started with the confrontation of proportions and its small scale in relation to the adjacent uses. An attempt according to the regionalist approach, while respecting the site and being an indicator in the urban landscape, a design with privacy respect, emerged in architectural residential spaces. The design process, using the general form of the site, along its axis created a geometry with rectangular proportions that the presence of negative spaces in the main walls of the project, to increase the quality and level of visual vision in the building volume and it leads to a dialogue between the architecture of the building and the city. Also, in the design of each floor and spaces of the building, multiple and separate terraces have been considered to interact with the surrounding environment. Greenness in poplar is created by the presence of green walls on the roof and yard. The way of locating of negative spaces control the view of building, it will create mental peace and create a sense of security in the spaces. Utilizing of glass in the design as a transparent element along with stripping materials is cost-effective and it is associated with openness in architecture and a factor in creating dynamism in the city.

Two arches villa

Damavand, Iran

STUDIO NAME: AAD Architecture Office

LEAD DESIGNER: Hossein Hassani, Amin Habibi

DESIGN TEAM: Pooria Mirzaee- Fatemeh Azimi- Mahsa Yadegari- Nazanin esmael Nazari

PHOTOGRAPHY CREDITS: Pooria Mirzaee

Two arches villa is located in a calming environment in Damavand, Iran. The design process of this villa tries to reflect the origins of Iranian architecture from a modern point of view. Inspired by Iranian gardens, we positioned a waterway as a main axis of the site. All the principles and spatial hierarchy are considered in the design of the plan of this building to provide privacy and comfort of its inhabitants. As well as that, we used a white plane as a form between two arches as a divider of public and private spaces. In order to make a connection between these areas in first floor, we used a bridge as a corridor. By positioning all the windows toward the main courtyard and the street, we tried to reflect the concept of extroversion and introversion of Iranian architecture in this building. In terms of material, bricks are used as the finishing of the exterior and interior.

Architecture | Industrial Buildings

Shamim Polymer Factory

Karaj, Iran

STUDIO NAME: Davood Boroojeni Office

LEAD DESIGNER: Davood Boroojeni

DESIGN TEAM: Saba Ammari, Hamed Kalateh

PHOTOGRAPHY CREDITS: Parham Taghioff

The project proposal is related to a factory for the production of polymeric materials. The factory has a production, office and research department. The project land is approximately square like (60 meters long and 50 meters wide) is limited to the neighbor in the north and west and to the street in the south and east. This land with an area of three thousand square meters is located in a small industrial town in Alborz province of Iran. The lack of architectural separation for different work activities in Iranian factories is the major reason for the low quality of living spaces for such functions. As a factory has multiple work spaces and houses a range of staff from laborer to lab specialists, the architectural quality of connecting spaces which also plays the role of separating different activity areas is of crucial importance. However, majority of industrial buildings in Iran have integrated structure and the only dividing area for different functions are interior walls. This project seeks to solve this problem by increasing sense of connecting spaces to improve the quality of life of factory workers. The concept of this complex took place in two outdoor void spaces perpendicular to each other. One void stretches south to north and the other empty space stretches east to west. The geometry of these void spaces makes separation of different parts possible and acts as a middle courtyard for connecting different areas with each other. Human dimensions, open air, light and shadow, green space and color increase the sense of middle courtyard. Different sections with glass walls or windows overlook the middle courtyard and improve its psychological security. In choosing construction materials, their purity has been considered. Floors are made of concrete and steel, walls are made of prefabricated concrete blocks, glass and prefabricated concrete panels, and stairs are made of cast in place concrete without any other materials. Things such as the desired spatial quality, local architecture, climate, and exposed usage of materials have been considered in the project’s design. We believe that the beautiful, innovative, and beneficial architecture of the project is the result of using the above mentioned simultaneously. The most important challenge in designing industrial uses, given the wide range of their employees from simple workers to laboratory specialists, is the proper separation of different work spaces and implementing hierarchical access. Our studies have shown that lack of proper placement in different uses relative to each other has reduced significantly the efficiency of production, and requires more energy and manpower to compensate for it. For this purpose, instead of a wall, we used space to separate different parts. The middle courtyard’s prediction helped to separate various parts of the factory properly, including the administrative, the laboratory and the production areas. Other challenge was the possibility of leaving this middle courtyard abandoned. To meet this challenge, we increased the spatial quality of the middle courtyard by observing human dimensions, considering open air for it, predicting the light and shadow play, green space and color. In Iran, there have been specific patterns for organizing building plans from the past. The middle courtyard and the cruciform axes are two important patterns in Iranian architecture. These two patterns are still used today in design of buildings with residential, administrative, multi-purpose, parks, etc., but their traces are disappeared in today’s industrial architecture of Iran. There are documents indicated that these two patterns were used about 400 years ago and in the historical era of Safavid in the industrial uses’ design. The factories of that eras, called BIOTAT, had two axes perpendicular to each other and have a courtyard in the middle. It is believed that the prediction of these two patterns in the architectural design of this project is an attempt to revitalize these two Iranian architectural methods in industrial uses. The context of design has consisted of cold winters with strong western winds and hot summers. For reducing energy consumption, we have used materials with low heat transfer coefficient for the walls. The chosen color for the outer shells was white with the aim of minimizing absorption of solar radiation in summer. Spaces such as warehouses are located on the western wall and act as heat filters in summer and winter. Our other solution for this purpose is the green roof of the administrative part of the factory. One of our primary goals of design was to expose materials. We believe that the uses of exposed materials not only creates an industrial feel in the spaces, also makes less harm to the environment.

Gheytarieh Project

Tehran, Iran

STUDIO NAME: Kalbod studio

LEAD DESIGNER: Mohamad Rahimizadeh

DESIGN TEAM: Shaghayegh Nemati- Nasrin Eghtesadi – Mohamad Ramezankhani-Atefe Ramezankhani-Zahra Boron

PHOTOGRAPHY CREDITS: Mohamad Rahimizadeh

The Qeytariyeh project has been built on 7 floors of 6 units in the northern part of Tehran. In this project, the scenario that is intended for the access of the units is such that each unit has separate access and the privacy of each family is preserved. Also the crowds and noise of other units do not disturb the other units. Also, public spaces such as lobby, conference hall, meeting hall, cinema, cafe and gym are designed to improve and enhance the quality of life in a residential apartment where everyday life is evident. In the process of façade design, because the structure of the building was built, we faced limitations such as the existence of shear walls in the facade. Despite all the challenges, an attempt has been made to present a design that is most in harmony with its context and using the least materials. By multiplying a single module throughout the surface, we arrive at a regular structure and network that is at the same time rhythmic and balanced. This rhythm and balance is considered by seeing the material of the modules differently By releasing a single module throughout the surface, we achieve a regular structure and grid that is rhythmic and balanced at the same time. This rhythm and balance is considered by seeing the material of the modules differently.

Mercury Hotel Garden

Kish Island, Iran

STUDIO NAME: Peyman Kiani Architects

LEAD DESIGNER: Peyman Kiani Falavarjani

DESIGN TEAM: Nima Bavardi, Parisa Biriya

PHOTOGRAPHY CREDITS: Mohammad Ali Rezaeiyan

The design of the Mercury hotel garden was taken from the world under the sea such as corals and amazing fishes which are the first things that appear in your eyes while your fit touches the Persian gulf water on the beach around Kish Island. The goal is to bring a sense of sea calm into the space of the hotel. At night, the lighting of the coral garden reminds the experience of walking on the beach with the view of bioluminescence coastal creatures that are found in the sea line of the Persian gulf. This hotel has been one of the most important constructions in Kish Island since 2019. The entrance area of the hotel and garden is not only bio-phormic, creative, contemporary and modern, but also make an emotional connection with people by its design. As a result of the first phase research team, the research team decided to make contrasts by using different lightings per side and angles. The hotel passengers will enjoy the sea view with the bioluminescence-like coral garden.
